Loving your body is the best gift you can give yourself. Your body will always be with you no matter what, so why not feel good about it? Not only is it good for your mental health, but for your physical health as well. Loving your body increases your self-esteem. Self-esteem makes you feel positive about yourself. With high self-esteem, you can handle stress better, which can increase your lifespan. Through positive thinking and smart psychology, you can change the relationship you have with your body.
Embrace body positivity
Each body is unique and beautiful in its own right. No matter how much you weigh or how tall you are, your body is your own and you should honor it as such. For our whole lives, we’ve been bombarded with images of what attractive bodies should look like. Everything from magazines, movies, and media to other people’s comments has likely factored into your body image and how you feel about it. Stop thinking of your body’s differences as flaws and start thinking about them as unique.
Make it a habit
It’s time to break free from the negative self-talk you’ve been feeding yourself. You must truly understand and embrace that how you feel is more important than how you look. Your happiness shouldn’t be limited to measurements like your weight or the size of your pants. Live life outside of the numbers that might otherwise drag you down. Instead of focusing on your weight, focus on your health and how you can benefit it with your actions.
Acceptance: It is what it is
Your body is the only vessel through which you can enjoy life. Without your body, you wouldn’t have a physical presence. Appreciate all your body does for you by reminding yourself of how it benefits you every day. Say a silent “thank you” for every breath you take. Life in and of itself is a gift that you should cherish because it won’t last forever! That’s why this current moment is called “the present.” Stop berating your body for what it can’t do and start admiring your body for what it can do.
Ditch the negative self-talk
Don’t join other people when they speak negatively of their bodies. It forms a very detrimental habit. You deserve better than that. You can still have health goals, but that doesn’t mean you should subject your body to negativity in the process. Face it: Your body is what enables you to reach those health goals in the first place! Whenever you face yourself in the mirror, immediately stop any negative criticisms that come your way and say kind things to yourself instead. The same goes for looking at any other part of your body. Don’t bemoan your excess fat when you’re putting on your clothes. Be grateful that you have a body that allows you to occupy space. Without your body, you would literally be nowhere!
No more body-shaming
Body-shaming is the act of shaming someone for having a particular body. That includes you. Stop criticizing bodies for what they are or aren’t, regardless of the reason. Everybody is unique, and why every person’s version of health looks different! Stop holding yourself and others accountable to standards that might suit one body, but not another. Beauty comes in every size, and so does self-confidence!
