Older Female Celebs Who Secretly Struggle With Pimples

If we’re being honest, many of us have envied celebrities over the years. After all, who wouldn’t want to be rich and famous? But the downside is that you have cameras in your face all the time. That would be annoying enough in any circumstances, but it can be downright infuriating when you are suffering from an acne breakout.

Believe it or not, that happens to plenty of female celebrities who are over 40 years old. Most of them thought they left pimples behind in their teen years only to find the zits waiting to make their return in middle age. Just which of your favorite female celebs have struggled with pimples, and how do they solve this painful problem? Keep reading to find out!

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is basically a brand unto herself. She managed to parlay a leaked sex tape of herself into a successful reality show, one which made her a household name. Because of this, she understands better than most people really do judge a book by its cover and that she needs to look absolutely fabulous at all times. Unfortunately, she has one major enemy when it comes to looking glam 24/7: acne. Like many women, she wasn’t expecting to have to deal with pimples when she hit middle age. To her credit, though, she has been very open about her struggles.

In an interview with Bustle, she admitted, “I never thought I’d be getting acne in my 40s. It was definitely really interesting to experience.” But Kim Kardashian is a problem solver, and she created a game plan for tackling the issue. “Luckily, I documented it, and we’ve been working on a lot of products that have taken that into account.” If you want skin like Kim, you’re in luck: according to the reality television star, “I never thought I would be making acne products, but that’s definitely coming in the future.”

Tina Fey

Tina Fey has been in the public eye for a very long time. Her career kicked into high gear when she began writing for Saturday Night Live, and she soon began earning even more laughs when she stepped in front of the camera. Thanks to her fame and popularity, she ended up headlining 30 Rock, which is arguably the best-written sitcom of all time. In short, Fey has appeared in front of cameras for a long time now, and fans have seen her from every angle. What we haven’t seen, though, is what she works so hard to cover up: acne.

In her 2011 autobiography Bossypants, Fey opened up about her struggles with pimples. “My ability to turn good news into anxiety is rivaled only by my ability to turn anxiety into chin acne.” In typically funny Fey fashion, however, she described how and why she came to embrace her skin condition over time. “I wouldn’t even trade the acne scar on my right cheek because that recurring zit spent more time with me in college than any boy ever did.” Maybe 30 Rock never ended, because that’s the most Liz Lemon thing we’ve ever heard!

Jennifer Aniston

It’s almost impossible for younger people to understand how popular Jennifer Aniston was in the ‘90s. She was the most buzzworthy actor on Friends, a sitcom that captivated millions of fans in an age where we still got most of our entertainment from television. People fell in love with her look, and countless fans rushed out to get the haircut she sported in that show’s early seasons. More than perhaps anyone on the planet, Aniston knows what it’s like to have the whole world watching you. That means she’s gotten very good at hiding the acne that tries to blemish her famous face.

Like Kim Kardashian and Tina Fey, Jennifer Aniston has been remarkably open about her pimple problems. She dished about them in an interview with Elle, where she discussed just how annoying they can be. Fortunately, the Friends star also revealed her preferred way of dealing with the problem: applying Mario Badescu’s drying lotion, which she has “used for years and years.” To her fans, she also left some very motherly advice: don’t pick at the damn thing!

Reese Witherspoon

One of the most interesting (and admittedly frustrating) things about acne is that it can have many different causes. Tina Fey, for example, has been very open about how her anxiety leads to zits, usually on the chin. However, girl next door Reese Witherspoon (star of such classics as Election and Legally Blonde) doesn’t think it’s nerves causing her breakouts. Instead, she blames it on the makeup she has to wear for her film and television roles.

In an interview with Allure, she discussed how the makeup can lead to acne on her nose and chin. For her, the best solution to this problem is thoroughly cleaning her face each day. She recommended using Elizabeth Arden’s retinol capsules and gushed about how they improved her appearance. “I look more awake in the morning. They also even out the redness in my skin so I don’t have to wear as much foundation.”
